Rotary Brings Warmth to New Year Walkers in Marple
1 January 2026
On the freezing morning of 1st January, the Rotary Club of New Mills, Marple & District brought a little warmth to the Peak Forest Canal in Marple by distributing free hot chocolate to the many determined walkers who braved the cold. Despite the icy air and frosty towpath, people were out in good spirits, walking off the New Year celebrations and enjoying the fresh start that comes with a winter morning outdoors. The sight of so many walkers, wrapped up against the weather, was a reminder of the resilience and positivity in our community.
Rotarians were equally committed, serving hot drinks with smiles and friendly conversation, and using the opportunity to support a worthwhile cause. Donations collected during the morning were given to The Wellspring, helping the charity continue its vital work with people facing homelessness and hardship. It was a simple gesture, but a meaningful one — proof that small acts of kindness can make a real difference. What better way to begin the year than by sharing warmth, community spirit and hope.
